Food News: Are you a Friend or Faux? Chipotle wants to know.

Think you know your favorite fast food items well enough to know what goes in them?

Chipotle wants to put your knowledge to the test and see if you truly know what goes into your fave fast food meals with a fun and interactive game. And prizes.

The 411:

In the early years of fast food, things were simple: real ingredients, fast. Nowadays, I dare you to try and CORRECTLY pronounce half the stuff that goes into what we eat (no, seriously, I double-dog dare you).

Our peeps at Chipotle are striving for a change in how we think, see, and consume fast food. Which if you ask me (even though you didn’t), is WAY overdue.

In comes Chipotle’s “Friend or Faux?” campaign.

Friend or Faux” reinforces Chipotle’s commitment to serving real, high quality ingredients raised with respect for farmers, the environment, animals and consumers, while taking a progressive approach to continue conversations about where food comes from and how it is prepared.

How to Play:

To play “Friend or Faux,” consumers must choose a Chipotle menu item and one of a number of fast food menu items, and then compare and match 20 ingredients, identifying which menu item contains each ingredient – the Chipotle item, the fast food item, or both.

The menu items will include a variety of Chipotle’s burritos, bowls, tacos and salads, as well as items such as burgers, burritos, tacos, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas available from a number of common fast food brands.

A “study guide,” where users can learn about the ingredients, showcasing the range of fresh, whole options found in Chipotle’s menu compared to that of other fast food restaurants, will also be available.

What can you win?

Apart from better health? Participants who complete the ingredient comparison experience will receive a special buy-one-get-one mobile offer (woot woot!), as well as an entry into a national sweepstakes.

The national sweepstakes will award 50 grand prize winners with one year of “Free Burritos for You and a Friend” and 100 first prize winners with a “Catering Party for 20” (where available).

Side Note: Users who share the “Friend or Faux” website on their Facebook and Twitter pages will receive a bonus sweeps entry.

Final Thoughts:

Yes, I took the test. Passed with a respectable 16 out of 20 questions for the Chipotle Barbacoa Bowl vs. the Towering Tasteburger.

Chipotle’s Friend or Faux ends on Aug. 31, so you will have plenty of chances to take as many tests as your heart (and stomach) desire.

I have to say — I have so much respect for what the folks at Chipotle are doing. They are walking the walk and creating the talk around better eating choices.

Even people who aren’t Chipotle groupies can get around what they are trying to do. And if you don’t, then you and I can’t be friends.

Happy Eats,
